This dude is such an asshole.
I admit that I do have double standards sometimes, but it's never been so apparent to me before.
Honestly, I've never really been bothered by secondhand cigarette smoke because I'm so used to the smell. (My dad is an avid smoker.) All the smokers I've met in my life have been pretty polite and considerate: they either ask before lighting up, or when I express discomfort with it, they go somewhere else to smoke. It's a mutual understanding between smokers and non-smokers of the world.
BUT all that changed when I started this job of mine and met the most obnoxious smoker.
Not only does he light up without warning; when I politely request for him to stand further away from me (for some reason his cigarette smoke makes me cough while others' don't), he replied, "Hey I'm giving you free smoke - you should be grateful!"
The first time I heard that I was so astonished that I just shut up and walked away myself.
The second time, I retorted, "I don't think I want free lung cancer, thanks." I thought that might've made him realize what a douche he was being and retreat, but he continued smoking like a smug chimney.
The third time, I tried again and said, "You know secondhand smoke is more dangerous to health than smoking itself?" He just laughed and exclaimed, "You shouldn't complain when you get free smoke!"
There is no getting through to a douchebag.
Hence I've resorted to passive-agressive looks and blatantly getting up from my desk when he takes out his cigarettes. (My desk is situated right at the front of the store and his self-designated smoking area is just outside.)
And passive-agressiveness doesn't work if the receiver refuses to decode the message.
Last night I was at a friend's birthday celebration and halfway through a movie in the room, one of her friends asked if I was okay with them smoking right there. I nodded without hesitation. Then I started thinking about how I would have thrown a bitch fit if it had been my colleague - not that he would've asked for permission in the first place.
Double standards make me feel hypocritical but I can't help it. When this douchebag lights up, my face involuntarily scrunches up into a cringe. When my friend lights up, I just continue standing there chatting like I'm not inhaling increased chances of lung cancer.
OH GOD HE'S AT IT AGAIN GOTTA LEAVE MY DESK BYE

What Is This Feeling?
The original answer to that song lyric is "loathing", but sometimes I just like to sing that line and replace the rest of it with whatever emotion I'm experiencing.
Right now, it's relief, with a hint of trepidation.
Relief because I had a two-hour argument with one of my dearest on this sinking Earth. The emphasis is on the duration of the fight. It lasted only two hours and that's the longest we've ever fought. So I'm lucky to have a friend with whom arguments = frank discussions about our flaws.
That hint of trepidation comes from that obsession I've had for the past few weeks. I'm hopeful but inevitably it'll all come crashing down in a tidal wave until I'm crushed (crash, crush. Heh heh heh).
It's a very strange mood to be in, now. I tend to get overexcited about little things but now the rain is coming and the weather is so soothing I feel it's a crime not to sleep. Little things don't matter now.
Will somebody give me a bed that's locked in time?

Obsession
This infatuation has got to stop. Hours and hours of contemplating and fantasizing has caused my brain to malfunction more than usual.
To make matters more dire, my constant need to gush (even while my brain isn't working) probably renders me a very tiresome person to hang out with nowadays.
Let this be an official apology if you have been a victim of my word vomit on this subject.

Olympus Has Fallen
I went to watch this flick with my class homies Eugene, Elina, and Lesley last night and the movie was so "fuggin' awesome", to quote another classmate, Faisal.
The entire movie was intense and you just know that I had to cover my mouth for almost the whole thing because I kept gasping out loud.
Afterwards Lesley declared I was the most excitable person with whom she's ever watched a movie.
The movie depicts a former Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler ♥) being the only person able to infiltrate the White House after a terrorist takes the President hostage inside it.
It's up to Agent Banning to save the the world, literally. If the United States were to be nuked by their own nukes, the economy would be thrown into chaos, affecting every other nation on this planet. Big picture, huh?
What's great about this movie isn't the plot itself. As storylines go, this one is pretty predictable: President gets held hostage by terrorists, a lone anti-hero suddenly has greatness thrust upon him and saves the day.
Even so, the witty quips of Agent Banning plus the badass action sequences more than make up for it. The acting is just superb: Gerard Butler comes off effortlessly as a bored former agent chained to his desk job; Morgan freaking Freeman becomes the coolest Acting President ever after Aaron Eckhart (the perpetual amiable public figure in film) is taken hostage; even the actress playing Banning's girlfriend emoted the role really well.
How can this movie not be awesome when God himself (Morgan Freeman AKA everyone's favorite narrator ever) is in it? One also gets to see King Leonida busting his ass off to save Two-Face - now there's a sight. (If you don't know who either of those are, please review your priorities in life and watch more good movies.)
Also, the baddie here is portrayed by Rick Yune, over whom I was mulling my brain throughout the movie - where had I seen him before? A quick IMDB search now reveals he was that hot protagonist in The Man With The Iron Fist. Another ♥ for Olympus!
His character is pretty two-dimensional: evil, misguided, determined to do big things or die trying. Luckily he had his dashing good looks going for him or else he'd be a pretty draggy villain.
I almost snagged an Olympus poster after we exited from the theater as the staff were taking down posters from their frames and rearranging them. Eugene kept urging me to steal one and after I picked one up, one of the staff came over casually, saying, "Ma'am, cannot take."
Aw shucks. Would have been humiliating had I not been gorging on leftover popcorn. It seems like I shed all dignity whenever I'm eating something.

Infatuation
My mom has always told me, since I was a kid, "I'm not buying it for you; you're only gonna get sick of it soon enough." Most times she stood by her decision, but in one memorable case, tears worked, so I got the toy that I wanted.
[Fade in on a gigantic stuffed doll, slouched against the wall in a corner.]
Within weeks the doll had been played with and forgotten. I blame myself. (Sorry, Dolly! We had a great run.)
My point is, my mom had been right, like mothers usually are. But now that I'm almost 21 and earning my own keep (plus I'm practically supporting my unemployed mother), she can't say much about what I decide to do with my money.
What I spend my dough on typically revolves around the usual: food, music, movies, books, an occasional cool top or a nice skirt, etc. These probably take up three quarters of my entire paycheck. Factor in my current infatuation and I become broke.
The last thing I was infatuated with before my current one (I'll get to this later) was Dr. Martens shoes because they had sponsored a performance by the English indie-rock band, The Heartbreaks. Seeing the band members in their Dr. Martens and receiving a $20 discount voucher made my heart yearn for a pair of my own.
I didn't end up with one because the logical part of me kicked in and chastised my infatuated part; those leather babies are too expensive. Also, leather used to be the skin of a cow. I mean, I can eat beef without much guilt, but wearing their skin...is a whole new level of creepy that I can't justify to myself yet.
So I saved myself some money from my wondrous restraint, and now I'm spending it all on something else: nail polish.
Seriously, I've been obsessed with nail polish since February and my nails haven't been nude since. My mom's sort of disapproving on account of all the money I've spent on nail polish (approx. $70 in total) but she's borrowed some colors a few times. Good thing I picked an infatuation with something that my mom likes, so she won't nag too much.
Pretty nails are the shit, man. Guys will never get this rush of satisfaction: when you catch sight of your nails while you're typing, or picking up something - whatever people do with their hands. (Ahem.)
Another infatuation of mine now is the K-rock band, CNBLUE. Every time I mention this to someone who hasn't already had this conversation with me before, I get this response: "Oh, then do you listen to FT Island? They play their own instruments too."
Yes, I have listened to FT Island and frankly, they're not my type. First, some of the members are blonde. I don't really dig blonde hair on Asians. Second, their music is a bit...too pop-rock for me. CNBLUE has some alternative infused into their pop-rock, so that's what attracts me (along with lead singer Jung Yong Hwa's dashing good looks).
By the way, it's Korean rock. K-rock. I'm not a K-pop fan. I'm not even an English pop fan. I like my pop as a sub-genre, like indie-pop or pop-punk or even urban-pop (basically means R&B).
It shouldn't bother me so much, being labelled as a pop fan, but it does. I can't help it. It probably stems from my year of working at Capitol Gramophone, where disdain of anything mainstream is abundant. Even pop-punk band Paramore may be considered mainstream and worthy of distaste. (And let's face it, a lot of people my age think Paramore's cool beyond words.)
So sometimes I feel conflicted when I listen to my pop-punk music. Because I've been trained to judge people that do, I judge myself even more for it. This is crazy, man. We should all stop being so judgmental of each other's music tastes and just, like, let it be.
Oops, now I'm being preachy.
Shit, am I turning into my mom? I need to stop nagging.

It's been over a month since I've last blogged, and I can tell you why: school work.
I so should have been done with all my assignments by now, but procrastination keeps buffeting me. Back when my lecturer announced that we had to do a book review, I couldn't wait to start. But then I couldn't get through the first chapter of Emma again so it just got held off till now.
And now I'm not even doing Emma anymore. Hellooo, John Green. In hindsight it's amazing that my friend Sin Yee gave me a copy of his book, The Fault In Our Stars, because I have so many things to write about it for the book review. Heck, even the author's own website has FAQs on the book.
Also, the second reason I haven't been able to finish my work earlier is my new obsession with nail polish. I wholly blame Xiang Ning and Gladys for that. They took me to my first manicure/pedicure ever, and which girl wouldn't fall in love with the way her nails shone after that?
Hence lately I've been staying up way later than my self-imposed bedtime of midnight, and turning up to work more zombiefied than usual. On the plus side, my nails are pretty. Well, to me anyway.
And isn't that all that matters? If I think my nails are pretty, then it doesn't matter who doesn't. Like this particular comic I saw on Facebook, "If you think you're sexy, then damn it, you are sexy."
I can't agree with that enough.
"If you think you're hungry, then damn it, you are hungry."
